Benefice Clergy - The Revd Roger Jones, Team Vicar
The Rev Roger Jones Hailing originally from Llanelli, where he attended the local Grammar School, Roger was collated into the Pembroke Group of Parishes on 4th June 2001 when he became Vicar of the parishes of St Mary's Pembroke, St Michael's Pembroke and St Twynnells - and Rector of the parishes of St Petrox, Stackpole and Bosherston. On 7th June 2004 he was Licensed as Team Vicar in the newly formed Monkton Rectorial Benefice. He is what is commonly known as a 'late entrant' to the ordained ministry and prior to studying at St Michael's Theological College, Cardiff, from 1984 -1986 was for some years the Senior Regional Youth Officer for the Welsh Association of Youth Clubs (now known as Youth Cymru) based in east Wales. Prior to entering full time youth work in 1976 he was engaged in various commercial fields. Ordained Deacon at Llandaff Cathedral in 1986 and Priested the following year, he served his Title in the parish of Llangynwyd with Maesteg where his incumbent was The Rev Bernard Thomas, now Archdeacon of St Asaph. Upon his collation to the parishes of Wiston, Walton East and Clarbeston in February 1990 he returned to his home diocese of St Davids. In 2001 he was appointed as Incumbent to the newly formed Pembroke Group of Parishes and in 2004 became a Team Vicar in the new Monkton Rectorial Benefice. From 1995-2000 he was Diocesan World Mission Officer and, since 1997, has been Diocesan Clerical Secretary (Secretary to the Nomination Board and Joint Secretary of the Diocesan Conference and Standing Committee). He also serves on the Diocesan Churches & Pastoral Committee, the Diocesan Education Authority, is a member of the Governing Body of the Church Wales and administers the Clergy Review Scheme for St Davids Diocese. Additionally he represents the Diocese on Pembrokeshire Rural Outreach (where he is vice-chairman) and Pembrokeshire’s Substance Misuse Action Team, is a Foundation Governor at Stackpole Church in Wales VC School and a member of the Tanyard Youth Project Management Board. He is Chaplain to the Pembroke Gild of Freemen and also Chaplain to the current Mayor of Pembroke, Councillor Gareth Jones Roger is married to Lorraine; they have two grown up children and two young granddaughters.
